Saiga Antelope - Digital Art
Saiga Antelope - Digital Art

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm totally overwhelmed by the state of the world. This heavy sense of watching things spiral out of control...and bearing witness to all kinds of suffering...it is so easy to get mired in it and stop seeing the good and joy in the world.

The biologist in me knows that there is an evolutionary advantage to our brain's tendency to focus and be more attentive to what it perceive as dangerous (we call it negativity bias). However, the Healthcare professional in me knows the priority we place on negative vs positive events comes with a significant psychological toll. Ofcourse this over simplifies this concept, but I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying.

I don't want to get trapped in negative thinking patterns. I want to continue to be the realistic optimist I've always been. So, I've been making a very conscious effort to seek out the good...the joy...the happiness that is out there in the world. And it helps. Between the antics of the pups, drawing for the sake of drawing , listening to music that I've always loved etc...I'm jam packing my life with more positive things.

I'm gonna share two of them with you here today. First is this illustration of a Saiga Antelope. They live on the Eurasian steppe and have this large trunk like nose. I've really enjoyed learning about them. And second I thought I'd share one of my favorite bands. Great Big Sea's has always had a special place in my heart...and more often than not has me giggling and singing at the top of my lungs.

Where do you seek out the good things in your life?
